Spring Into Action

I've been feeling more than a little uninspired these days, even with potential muses all around me. But, yesterday, I went on an adventure with two dear friends and writing circle buddies that helped renew my intention to live life in the moment.

At first it didn't seem all that promising. It was the opposite of swampy due to the time of year and the dry conditions we've had. But, as I  gazed up at the ancient cypress trees, listened to the wind dance through the tall, impossibly skinny pines, and opened my ears to the bird  symphony, I began to feel inspiration well within me. But, other than a couple of bees getting busy with a flower, there wasn't a lot of wildlife making itself visible.

Yet.

When I tell you we walked smack dab into the middle of a paradisal oasis, I am not exaggerating. I don't have pictures to show the scope of how magical the place was because I decided to leave my big camera home in an effort to be in the moment, so you'll just have to take me at my word.

All of the sudden, there were ponds, the surface bubbling and popping with activity, providing the perfect background music to the scene. Birds of all kinds perched themselves in the trees and along the shore while others actively fished the shallow water. Huge, prehistoric gators, bulging with their last undigested meal labored into resting places, catching some sun with satisfied looks on their faces.

The pictures don't do the place justice. It was one of those you-had-to-be-there kind of things. In that glorious moment, I became child-like, oohing and ahhing over every new site, every new sound, every movement I saw.

I needed that. I needed the reminder that in this sometimes ugly world, beauty abounds. It just took a little patience and awareness.

I have been sprung from my self-induced prison of mediocrity, ready now to take action.
